Brian Gray is the new Superintendent of White Oak ISD. The school board unanimously approved hiring Mr. Gray with a 7-0 vote at Thursday evening’s special called meeting. Mr. Gray is expected to begin his Superintendent duties on March 2, 2020.

Mr. Gray comes to White Oak from Harleton ISD. He is a 1989 graduate of Tarleton State University with a Bachelor of Science with a major in History and a minor in Physical Education. He earned his Master of Education from Texas A&M Texarkana in 2004. He is married to Tonya, who is an educator at Harleton Junior High. They have two sons, Hunter 23 and Hayden 21; both are students at the University of Texas at Tyler and a daughter Addison 17 who will be attending Tyler Junior college this fall.

He began his career in Queen City as head track coach/assistant football coach in 1993. He also coached and taught in Atlanta at James Bowie ISD. He began as Administrator as High School Principal at James Bowie High School in 2004. His first Superintendent job was in 2006 at Iredell ISD. In 2007 he became Superintendent of Union Grove ISD and served 11 years through 2018. He served as Superintendent of Irion County ISD before going to Harleton in 2019.

According to Board President Eric Swanson, “Brian possesses a balance of being approachable, having a deep knowledge of all aspects of the school business and a personal record of high achievement in academics and UIL activities.” Swanson also said, “As the former superintendent of Union Grove, Brian knows the reputation and traditions of White Oak schools.”

“The history and tradition of excellence at White Oak ISD is well known and something I am very excited about being a part of,” Gray said. “The school atmosphere and closeness of the community are very appealing. My goal is to produce young men and women who will become productive members of the community once they graduate. We want to give them as many tools for success as possible.”
