Our Food Services Department, led by Lori Ferguson, tries to keep students and parents informed of upcoming meals to be served. Links to these menus are posted on the right sidebar of this blog. Because parents and teachers are extremely busy right now, we are posting the menus here as well. It is important that our children eat a healthy lunch. Thank you, White Oak Food Services, for making sure that this happens.
Here are some important times that need to be noted. As it was pointed out today, there were discrepancies in some locations where the incorrect times were posted.
- 7:30 – Doors Open at 7:30. Students may enter the building at 7:30. All 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will enter the building and either go to breakfast or go directly to the gym. Parents are not allowed in the gym or upstairs.
- 7:45 – Classes begin at 7:45 when the students are released from the gym after daily morning announcements. If students arrive after 7:45, they will miss important announcements.
- 8:00 – The cafeteria will serve breakfast until 8:00. Students arriving after 8:00 will not get a breakfast tray.
- 8:00 – The double doors will close and lock at 8:00. Students arriving after 8:00 will be required to have a parent walk them in and get a TARDY slip. THREE TARDIES equal one ABSENCE
We are sorry if times differed in blog posts. We try hard to screen over 400 blogs for discrepancies, but sometimes a few errors slip past. However, this has given us an opportunity to highlight some important times so that each academic day can begin smoothly. It’s going to be a super year!
Even though we have very organized and specific procedures in place for dismissal and student pick-up, intermediate parents need to be mindful that there are 18 classes of primary students who will be dismissing only twenty minutes prior to intermediate dismissal. Many of these students have never been to school and this will result in congestion for about the first week of school. Bus drivers will be delivering new students to new addresses. The buses will be later arriving back to pick up our intermediate students. This will also result in your students arriving home a little later than usual the first week.
THEREFORE, INTERMEDIATE PARENTS – EXPECT DELAYS THE FIRST WEEK.
We want our parents informed and prepared for intermediate pickup, and each parent needs to become familiar with the TWO dismissal procedures that will be followed throughout the year. If everyone will review and know these procedures, we are confident that we can keep our students, your children, safe.

So, When May You Eat Lunch With Your Child?
During the first three weeks of school, our staff is teaching the routines and procedures to our students. For many of these students, it is their first time as intermediate students. While we know you miss them during the day, please do not plan to have lunch with your child until after Tuesday, September 5th. Also, REMEMBER: A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE MUST BE PROVIDED when coming onto campus.
You might consider including a special note in their lunch box. Make the day special for them.
Back to School means Back to the Club!
It is time to register for the Boys and Girls Club for the upcoming school year. You can register at www.BeGreatEastTexas.com .
The Boys and Girls Club will offer a safe and fun place for kids after school at White Oak Elementary School to get homework help and programming that specifically targets health, fitness, leadership, and character development.
There is a $25 registration fee. The cost is $65 a month. (Assistance is available for those who qualify.) The Boys and Girls Club will begin Monday, August 28th, at White Oak Elementary. The times are from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm, and Parents will be responsible for picking up on time.

White Oak Intermediate will host “Meet the Teacher” Tuesday afternoon, August 15th, from 4:30-5:30. During that time, parents are invited to the student’s classroom to meet their teacher. If you have already purchased your school supplies, please bring them at that time. The school supply lists for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades are posted right on the blog.
REMINDER: If you wait until the first day of school to bring your supplies, we will have carts ready in the gym. Parents of intermediate students are not allowed to walk students upstairs to the classroom. All intermediate students will go to the gym every morning where teachers will be on duty.
